Parents are the first people to influence their children. Parents are their first role models so they have to set a good example for their children.

Children at a young age rely on their parents. The parents should believe that weight and health are important and it should be a value to them. Parents should understand the important of preventing childhood obesity that I go into on my page Preventing Childhood Obesity.
According to the book, Health Promotion Throughout the Life Span, parents have objectives to keep their children healthy. Parents have to encourage their kids to be active. In recent years, children have been attached to electronics. Parents need to limit the amount of time spent behind a screen including phone, TV, and computers. Eating while watching TV is one of the main reasons why children overeat. Parents should provide their kids with healthy snacks. In America, we eat "fast food" too much, limit the amount of times going out and eating. Children should help with meal preparation and options. If the children is going to school, the parents should pack a healthy lunch or encourage children to eat healthy food from the cafeteria (Edelman & Kudzma).
